Hi, I am Kevin Wee ้ปๅ ๆ. I have been practicing data analytics since 2013 and visualization (proactively) since 2019. I love visualizations of all sorts: DataViz, InfoViz, SciViz, BioViz… you name it!

Doctor in Digital Media Evaluation
I am always fascinated by how people from various backgrounds perceive and, more importantly, misperceive information from visual representations. I have a Ph.D. in digital media evaluation from Purdue University (Department of Chemistry, Chemical Education Division). For my dissertation research, I developed a Tableau-based visual analytics methodology to examine how the content and design of scientific media (e.g., biomedical animations) may affect the target audience’s perceptions.
Graphing > DataViz > Visual Analytics
As a former molecular biologist, I was familiar with graphing as part of standard scientific data analysis. However, I did not fully appreciate the practice until I was introduced to Data Visualization (DataViz) at the 2017 Gordon Research Conference: Visualization in Science and Education. I have been fascinated by the intricacy of DataViz and the communities of practice ever since!
I came across Tableau software in 2019 while searching for a non-coding, easy-to-use DataViz tool for my doctoral work. I have been using the software creatively beyond research projects, including participating in datafam community challenges, such as Makeover Monday and Back 2 Viz Basics. I love designing vizzes that present meaningful stories to readers! The quality of my community challenge vizzes was recognized by Tableau, and I was selected as aย Tableau Public Featured Author in 2020 (see post).
I started incorporating Figma in my visualization practice in early 2020. I have been exploring innovative ways to leverage both Figma and Tableau as a DataViz power combo. I have presented on this topic several times, including at a virtual Tableau User Group (TUG) workshop titled “Tableau x Figma: How to Create Modern Dashboard Background Images via Figma?“
Accomplishment Highlights
I am passionate about sharing my DataViz work and knowledge with the DataViz community through my vizzes and social media posts. My passion has brought me many recognitions from Tableau; for instance, my vizzes have been featured on the weekly DataFam RoundUp blogs, and I have been invited to present at TUG meetings as a guest speaker. I was chosen by Tableau as a Tableau Public Ambassador (2022 – present) and aย Tableau Visionaryย (2024 – present), enabling me to contribute to communities on a larger platform!
I spoke at Tableau Conferences (2023 – present) on various dashboard design topics. The sessions were well received by the live audience and on Tableau’s YouTube channel. I also received the “Biggest Growth” Vizzies Award at the 2023 conference, recognizing my efforts to experiment with innovative DataViz design and to share my knowledge with the DataFam community. My Tableau accolades are available here.
I work at Capital One as the lead business intelligence (BI) analyst for the Credit BI team. With my expertise in visualization, data analytics, Tableau, and Figma, I help internal partners make data-informed business decisions. I also provide Tableau training and consulting to analysts across different teams.
